Despite clashing with one the most awaited Hindi films of the past few years the film Gadar 2 - Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 has managed to be able to open at a decent rate.
It was greeted with positive reviews and a good word of mouth, saw improvement both in its evening and night shows and also managed to earn the double digit number of openings day one,
Which has raised the possibility of a revival during the weekend.
OMG 2, which also features Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam was able to earn an estimated Rs 10.26 crore in the Indian market in its debut day.
This figure is largely due to a huge increase in the number of people who came to the theater during the days.
The matinee shows had a low attendance of 18%, however it rose to a staggering 66% during the evening shows, mostly because of the favorable reviews that the film received.
Gadar 2, the other major film that was released on the same day, was released to an impressive 40.10 crore. 40.10 crore which easily swept the competition but also affecting OMG 2's chances to an degree.
Although OMG 2 will surely be left out of some shows in Gadar 2 given the exhibitors preferring Gadar 2 Trade insiders believe that the Akshay-starrer could still be able to make a significant recovery,
And a 30% to 40% increase on a Saturday isn't unimaginable. If the film is able to achieve to do that, then a $40-crore weekend is probable and will provide an enormous increase to its prospects.
The opening of OMG 2 was hindered by the fact that the film was rated as an A film which hampered its popularity and appeal to families that comprise Akshay's main base.
Additionally, the controversy over the film's release prior to its release led to negative perceptions about the film, which can make some people turn off.
But, the producers would expect that an enthusiastic word of mouth will help to repair the harm and give the film a an opportunity to perform well in the theater.
